Email Draft

Hello Mr. Voight

This is Danielle Jackson from you’re Tuesday morning LS class. I was wondering if I could schedule a meeting with you, to interview you about your career in photography. I am interested in becoming a studio commercial photographer and I know you have a lot of insight in this area.    I understand you have a very busy schedule but I would love to have the chance to sit down and talk.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Reading week 3

Everything is an Argument

I enjoyed the reading this week. I have a tough time when I comes to argument because it’s kind of like fighting and I feel very uncomfortable when people fight or get in an argument. In the reading it talked about a type of argument called a Rogerian argument, which is what I would compare myself to. Someone who approaches an argument in a non -threating manner, and tries to find a common round for everyone; which I see myself doing a lot when I get in a disagreement.
I really enjoyed how this paper went into detail about all the different argument and didn’t talk about a general argument by describing a little about each one. Some argument I didn’t even consider as arguments like arguments to meditate or pray.  Which is when you’re having an argument within and hoping to change something about yourself.

The article even broke down the different occasions for arguments, like past present and future. And how you should carry you argument if you’re going to have an audience.  This article covered more than I was expecting it was going to and I enjoyed how each description was short and to the point.

Blog of the Week 3

This past week has been crazy! Sometimes I think I should have taken summer off to help distress myself. Between taking five classes, homework, and trying to find time to have a social life it’s impossible. If you’re reading this and you’re thinking I’m wrong, you’re probably not in LS.
With everything I’m doing I want to find time to start going to the gym. Being so busy with school I haven’t thought much about working out, but I want to change that. I have already changed the way I eat sadly I had to cut out a lot of things that taste really good. But I’m motivated to change and make a difference in my health.

I’m not over weight but before coming to Brooks I would work out between 18-22hours a week. Not working out has been killing me, working out is such a great way to relieve stress from your life which being here I really need especially because next week we start Black Glass next week in LS. If you’re not in pro photo you’re looking at roughly 20hrs in the studio plus anywhere from 30-40 page write up to go along with it and that’s just black glass one we have black glass 2 and creative after which are just as hard.

Artist Statement

Photography is my way of showing what I see to the world. I like to create photographs that are creative and abstract. The goal for me is to get my viewers to think and get drawn into the photograph. I use shapes along with texture to as a main point of view in my art. My art consist of mostly black and whites. Using black and white takes away the distraction of color and makes you focus on the movement and depth. When transfer my photos to black and white I feel it brings out an emotion that the color was covering up.
My work is inspired by the different tonal values in colors brought out by depth and shadows. I see everyday objects that you see, or walk past differently, that’s what I like to show my viewers, a new look on something old.
I also like to shoot still life. I like to have bright colorful backgrounds that contrast with the subject. I try to convey a fun almost comic book pop art feel through my photography.  Having a fun upbeat piece makes it more appealing to look at and truly enjoy.

My photography is something I’m lucky I can share with the world. I was given the ability to see and think creatively. Photography is more than just a hobby to me, it’s the way I see life and I’m blessed to have the chance to show the world.

Artist Statement hw

In the artist statements I read the entire artist cover most of the same bases. The all talked about what kind of photography they like and shoot and what you would see when looking through their website. They all used descriptive ways when they talked about how they see photography. For example Christopher baker described photography as an energy he feels between him and the subject. He paint you a picture of how he feels for example he says “What draws me to a subject is something atomic, and beyond verbal explanation. Yet the camera captures it without effort.” They all talked about how they want to evoke emotion from their viewers and how they capture what they envision.

Some things that made the three different in their own ways were the length. Each artist statement I read really varied in length, which is fine because there is no limit of what you can say about you work. For example one I read was three paragraphs and another one I read was 8 it all just depends on the artist. One artist described his technic of how he shoots and how he uses post work to make the image as similar as he saw in his head. Compared to other artist who didn’t talk about their post process at all. Their artist statement allows them the ability to tell you what they think is important and what you need to know.

Blog Post 2

This is my second blog and I’m still not 100% sure if I’m doing it write haha. Lets just say I’m not very tech savvy. I don’t know what to write about so I guess when in doubt…Netflix. Currently on Netflix I’m watching Mad Men. If you haven’t seen it it’s surprising good! It’s slower than most shows I watch, there isn’t much action. It’s based in the late 50’s early 60’s on businessmen who work in advertising in New York. I feel like they do a good job replicating the time era it makes me feel like I’m looking back in time but in a modern way if that makes sense. In the show they show they do a great job by showing how men with power take advantage of their life. They all have wonderful wife’s some with children but yet they cheat on them almost everyday. The show really opened up my eyes to how popular smoking was. I don’t think I fully realized how much they smoked but it feels like they need a cigarette every five minutes. If you haven’t seen it I would defiantly check it out it’s worth the watch.

Another show I have watched on Netflix that I would recommend is Dexter. It’s action packed and keeps you on your toes. It’s about a serial killer who works for the Miami police department in the blood splatters analysis department. He kills by specific rules his stepfather gave him one of the rules is to only kill other murderers. I don’t want to give anymore away it’s a must see so if you haven’t watched it and you’re into action mysteries I would defiantly watch it.
