Artist Statement hw

In the artist statements I read the entire artist cover most of the same bases. The all talked about what kind of photography they like and shoot and what you would see when looking through their website. They all used descriptive ways when they talked about how they see photography. For example Christopher baker described photography as an energy he feels between him and the subject. He paint you a picture of how he feels for example he says “What draws me to a subject is something atomic, and beyond verbal explanation. Yet the camera captures it without effort.” They all talked about how they want to evoke emotion from their viewers and how they capture what they envision.

Some things that made the three different in their own ways were the length. Each artist statement I read really varied in length, which is fine because there is no limit of what you can say about you work. For example one I read was three paragraphs and another one I read was 8 it all just depends on the artist. One artist described his technic of how he shoots and how he uses post work to make the image as similar as he saw in his head. Compared to other artist who didn’t talk about their post process at all. Their artist statement allows them the ability to tell you what they think is important and what you need to know.

Blog Post 2

This is my second blog and I’m still not 100% sure if I’m doing it write haha. Lets just say I’m not very tech savvy. I don’t know what to write about so I guess when in doubt…Netflix. Currently on Netflix I’m watching Mad Men. If you haven’t seen it it’s surprising good! It’s slower than most shows I watch, there isn’t much action. It’s based in the late 50’s early 60’s on businessmen who work in advertising in New York. I feel like they do a good job replicating the time era it makes me feel like I’m looking back in time but in a modern way if that makes sense. In the show they show they do a great job by showing how men with power take advantage of their life. They all have wonderful wife’s some with children but yet they cheat on them almost everyday. The show really opened up my eyes to how popular smoking was. I don’t think I fully realized how much they smoked but it feels like they need a cigarette every five minutes. If you haven’t seen it I would defiantly check it out it’s worth the watch.

Another show I have watched on Netflix that I would recommend is Dexter. It’s action packed and keeps you on your toes. It’s about a serial killer who works for the Miami police department in the blood splatters analysis department. He kills by specific rules his stepfather gave him one of the rules is to only kill other murderers. I don’t want to give anymore away it’s a must see so if you haven’t watched it and you’re into action mysteries I would defiantly watch it.

Week 3 reading hw

In the reading Understanding Rhetoric (the cartoon clips) was a new take on reading. By involving pictures it made it more please to the eye to read but over I didn’t like it. I’m not a big fan of comic books; to me they are difficult to read jumping back and forth from character to character when really there is no point. When I’m just trying to learn something I would much rather read it straight forward and to the point and I felt like this just dragged on.
The paper we read in class Teaching Two Kinds of Thinking I enjoyed. It was a easy read, being dyslexic and having ADD and ADHD make it so I really don’t enjoy reading because I have to put all of my effort into something. This piece though was surprisingly easy and I understood it well. It made it clear what first order thinking was and how opposite second thinking was compared to it. I think this piece was easy to read because it was so relatable not just to me but anyone who reads it, you either have one or the other. I think I write more with first order thinking, what ever comes to my head I put it on the paper they call it free thinking. Having ADHD I cant allow myself to stop and think about how I should construct something, I will end up getting off topic and it will be worse then writing freely.

In the third piece of reading Rhetorical Analysis is more of the type of reading I like to do when I want to learn something. I states what you have to do, why you have to do it, and then gives you examples. By giving me examples and telling me why I need it I understand better. They talk about how important it is to know your audience, which I strongly agree with. You have to know who you talking to or selling to, so you grab their attention and make them agree with what you are saying.

Week 1 blog

Hello my name is Danielle Jackson. I’m 18 years old from Oceanside California if you don’t know where that is, it’s south of us in the county of San Diego. My Birthday is May 29. I have one sister she is 21 years old and goes to college at UCI, people usually think we are twins but I don’t see it. My parents will be married for 30 years this coming June.
Growing up I was really involved in sports I played soccer, ran track, cheered, and danced. But I mostly spent my time playing soccer. I started playing soccer at three and a half and played every year after that. Between playing competitively and for my school I typically played year round and played multiple sports at a time.
My favorite type of music is reggae. The artists I like to listen to are Soja, Rebelution, Iration, and Matisyahu. If you have never heard of them go look them up on YouTube and listen to some of their songs. Their songs all have a great story in them and have a fun beat that is a mixture of pop and reggae.

My passion for photography started when I was in the 7th grade. I wish to pursue a career in product photography. My dream is to bring my creative eye to the business and have a unique look to my work that will be fresh and fun.
