Blog of the week6 (My Interview)

I feel like a super nerd at how excited I was to interview my photographer. Even though I just interviewed one of my teachers who was a still life photographer and not a super famous photographer I was still really excited. I learned so much and made me fall even more in love with photography. This interview made me have a better understanding of my career I want to get into since we really haven’t covered anything like this before.
In this interview it was really reassuring of how much I believe in myself, which was nice to have because it boosted my confidence. It was nice to talk to someone who I relate to. A lot of the students in the Pro-Photo department want to because some type of fashion/ portrait photographer. Which is the opposite of what I want to do so there isn’t many people who I can talk to about it.
The field I want to get into is, still life product, which is advertising products like Coca-Cola, Coach, Nike, etc.  Even though I don’t like to shoot portraits I know in some of my work I will have to use models which I have to except and produce just as high quality work as I would anything else.
During my interview my teacher gave me a website to go on to start finding photographers that I might want to intern for. Which is one of the things that got me very excited and happy I got the chance to sit down and talk to him. Over the next couple of month I’m going to look through this website of photographers and start researching them and finding out more about them. Once I have narrowed it down I will start to contact them and try to get in touch with them to get an internship.

Weekly Blog wk5

This week has been beyond stressful. But when I have a stressful week the only good thing that comes out of that is, it seems like the week flies by. This week was the week we changed over to a different ownership, which I’m very excited about. They seems like they want to help improve the school and aren’t just looking to make a profit.  The down side though, loosing the website/ email for almost two weeks. This makes it difficult to get work down and isn’t helping with my stressful week. I’m not super tech savvy to start with and then I have to figure out a completely new system while I already have a ton of things to do adds to my stress.  Right now both my emails for school don’t work and I’m not 100% sure how to work the new portal. I wish they had given us some kind of demonstration on how to navigate it or transfer our emails from one account to the other. I know this isn’t a going to be unorganized for long, but it’s very inconvenient, especially with our busy schedules. I know I’m complaining a lot in this email but I hate feeling out of the loop or not able to get to something I need.

Besides being so upset I am happy with the new owners. I feel like they have a lot of potential to rebuild the school to where it use to be. I heard they might build housing on one of the empty properties next to the school if enough students feel like that is important to them. Which I believe would be very convenient living next to school, you would have money on gas and be able to walk about and forth from school any time of the day, which would be nice to go home in-between classes.

This Weeks Reading wk5

Chapter 7
In this reading it talked about the different types for electronic communication such as emails, social networks, IM’s, texts, blogs, etc. and how it is very important on how you word what you are saying because when you communicate online you are loosing the connection between you and your audience or who ever you are speaking to. And how each genre of electronic communication represents how formal you want to come off. For example they talk about how emails are typically a very formal way of communicating with clients when handling business, and need to be written effectively.

Chapter 8
This was a short read but just as affective as chapter 7. In this chapter is broke down how to write an effective message using three steps. First to state your request upfront, which is telling your audience/ reader what you want off the bat so that they don’t get confused on what you are trying to ask them and achieve from the message. Second you want to explain/ justify what you are asking from them. This is where you want to explain why it’s important to you and them. And Lastly you want to state what you want them to do exactly this can be restating what you already said and adding on giving them specific details. This was a great read because It was almost like an outline for our email we have to create. And knowing these things makes writing the email much easier.

Overall

This weeks reading was very effective for what we are going to be talking about in class regarding our formal email to ask a professional in our field for an interview. Reading these assignments gave me helpful tips so that I can come off as professional and are worth their time to talk to.

Blog of the Week 4

I am exited for our final project at the end of the year in this class. I want to interview my LS teacher Greg Voight. He has a lot of experience in the field I wish to pursue. He also is very out going and easy to talk to which is a bonus because I think I would be to shy to talk to someone I don’t know very well. Having the personal connection already built with this teacher I will be able to ask more questions and hopefully come off more professional. He was a commercial studio photographer for almost 30 years (I don’t exactly how long) and was very successful, he owned his own business and studio he worked out of and had big clients. And that’s what I wish to do so if I can get, as much advice as I can it will help me dramatically.

I’m also looking forward to another final of mine in PTT262 which is Photoshop. At the end of the semester we have to turn in a composite that uses at least 5 different pictures we took.  The ideas are endless for this project which makes it difficult to choose what I exactly what to do for it. I had a couple ideas first was of a scene of all different board games that would be set up as one big game and then I would shrink down people to make it seem like they were tiny and acting out the different obstacles in the games. My second idea is a portrait of Mother Nature. It would just be a straight on portrait and in Photoshop I would replace her skin, hair, and clothes with objects from nature. Leave a comment on what one you guys think is more interesting I would love to hear from you.
